BELLEAYRE ‘07-‘08 TERRAIN PARK JAM SERIES BEGINS
Night Rail Jam Under a Full Moon Brings Out Crowds

An early week two of the 2007-2008 skiing and riding season began under clear blue skies with good snowmaking temperatures and people took advantage of the good conditions at Belleayre Mountain. Over one thousand people enjoyed the slopes this weekend where conditions ranged from soft bumps on the top of the mountain to smooth groomed corduroy from mid-mountain down. In another promising sign for the coming winter, Discovery Lodge opened earlier than last year as the Learning Circle fired up the rope-tow lift on Running Bear for beginners. And in a matter of hours on Saturday morning, a hard working crew armed with groomers, rakes and shovels managed to build a five rail park for the first session of the ‘07-‘08 Belleayre Mountain Terrain Park Jam Series.

Crowds of people were on hand to watch nearly 100 fearless contestants compete in a Night Rail Jam under a full moon rising over Overlook Lodge. The level of talent was undeniably exceptional for the first event of the season. After a 1 ½ hour open jam session, three judges had a hard time cutting the field of freestylers, which included both men and women and participants as young as seven, back to twenty finalists. The judges congregated as the alternative-rock band Ratboy entertained the crowd while the Spacecraft Rabbit handed out stickers and swag and spectacularly crashed a snowboard on the hill in front of the lodge. Twenty finalists then jammed, jibbed and bonked for another session to decide the winners. After another hard deliberation, the judges decided and prizes and awards that were handed out in the Overlook Great Room included new skis and a new snowboard for the first place winners. RadX Sports was on hand filming so watch for the Belleayre Terrain Park Night Rail Jam coming soon to cable TV. The link to photos is posted below.

There are currently two lifts servicing six trails, and a rail park with terrain continuing to open as snowmaking allows. Both Overlook and Discovery Lodges are open. Early season rates are in effect until 12/09/07 and midweek season passes are valid seven days a week until 12/09/07. Belleayre Mountain has extended their BOGO offer: Buy a lift ticket through 12/09/07 then bring that lift ticket back during late season (March 17th through closing) and receive a lift ticket of equal or lesser value for free. The forecast looks good as Belleayre continues to receive promising early season natural snow and the temperature has been dropping at night enough to continue snowmaking operations. New terrain will open as weather permits.

New this season, Belleayre has formed its first Freestyle Program for people who are interested in pushing their skills in the terrain park, half-pipe and moguls. From this program, Belleayre will field its first Freestyle Team to participate in regional competitions. The enrollment deadline for all seasonal programs is December 16th. To reserve space in Freestyle, the Race Program, or the Alpine Development Program or to sign up for a holiday camp or to book a private lesson call 845-254-5600 x304. Group lessons must be arranged the day of the visit in person.
