Tip of the Week

Look Ma, No Arms
By Mimi Weisbaum

If you want to quiet down upper body movement - whether on the mellow
corduroy or in the bumps, take away their poles and have your students wrap
their arms around their bodies. (They'll probably find a wider stance more
comfortable for this -I know I do, and that's a good thing.) (And you might
need to suggest to some that they "look" into the middle of their upcoming
turn, or at the next mogul, to keep their bodies flowing forward.)

If they don't want to give up their poles, have them ski in a tuck. But not
an extreme one, as you want their upper bodies fairly erect.

Tip #1: Do this - don't do that
Tip #2: Smooth turns for your student
Tip #3: Leaping Lizzards
Tip #4 How do you make a turn?
