Belleayre Pacesetter Anna Chetnik
Wins Regional NASTAR Pacesetter Race at Hunter Mountain

Belleayre NASTAR Pacesetters Mikey Ford, Erik Tompkins and Anna Chetnik visited Hunter Mountain on January 5, 2012 to participate in the East Coast NASTAR Pacesetter time trials. Four-time Olympian AJ Kitt set the pace for the pacesetters. With the late start to this winter, everyone was a little rusty and it was one of the first times this season that anyone had actually crashed any gates. That said Mikey Ford and Erik Tompkins placed respectably in a tough field on the Hunter NASTAR course on Madison Avenue, with Mike less than 2 seconds off of A.J.’s blistering 26.88 in the first heat, and both Mike and Erik duplicating that achievement in the second heat.
But the highlight of the day was the fact that Anna Chetnik, the Belleayre female pacesetter won day for the regional women’s group, making her one of the fastest NASTAR pacesetters in the Northeast. Her second run was less than 3 seconds behind Kitt’s smoking 25.76 run and about a second behind Erik and Mikey. Anna has been skiing for over 10 years, but just got serious about going seriously fast about it over the last couple of years since she started dating long time Belleayre skier and pacesetter Mike Ford. “I really couldn’t have done it without Mikey,” she said referring to her boyfriend who has been skiing and racing at Belleayre for most of his life. “He really helped me take it to the next level crashing gates.”
For those not familiar, NASTAR is the acronym for the NAtional STAndard Race and is the largest public grassroots ski race program in the world. More than 95,000 Nature Valley NASTAR participants compete throughout the season to win platinum, gold, silver and bronze medals in their age and gender groups. In addition, participants are ranked in their ability group and the top ranked racers qualify to compete in the Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships. The NASTAR handicap system is a universal scoring system that provides participants with a tangible number that represents their ability. The NASTAR.com web site records each participants stats and ranks each racer at the host resort, in their state of residence and nationally.
Well, this season, all of the female NASTAR racers who come to Belleayre are going to be chasing Anna Chetnik. Who is she? Oh, just one of the fastest women in the Northeast.
