Winds may affect lift operations throughout the day.
Belleayre Express Update: On Monday morning, strong winds caused a tree to fall on the Belleayre Express Lift, causing damage that is currently being assessed. We are currently working closely with Doppelmayr to determine the next steps. At this time, we do not have an estimated timeline for the lift’s return to operation but we will provide updates as soon as possible.
The contrast of scenes is quite amusing. Driving through the small villages of Fleischmanns and Big Indian, all is calm and clear. Make the turn onto Galli Curci Road, and you just see a wall of the blizzard shrouding the mountain. Of course, it’s been manufactured by our snowmakers, who continued resurfacing efforts on Peekamoose, Yahoo, Iroquois, Lower Wanatuska, and Onteora. Elsewhere on the mountain, our crew of cats rolled their tillers on the majority of our 51 open trails, making silky machine groomed loose granular conditions!
Be sure to bundle up for that first ride up any one of 6 lifts! It is a chilly one to start, with a reading of 9 degrees this morning at the base of the Catskill Thunder Gondola. Expect generally cloudy skies for each run you take, absorbing that crisp mountain air as it bumps up to a high of 16, and northwest winds brushing by between 10 and 15 mph.
